I would like a good, free video editing program to amateur use with lots of effects. It could be easy to use, but thats not SO important (I learn fast). Any suggestions?

Well, I don't know a free program but with my new computer I got Pinnacle Studio 9. Used it for school too and it works great and is easy to learn.
