Partition Magic is dangerous software, you must always remember that. It might be possible to undo what has been done and yes, that the computer won't boot anymore is probably due to an error that occurred while running Partition Magic's operation.

Another option could be to remove the harddisk from your computer, connect it in your dads computer, run a program to recover the data from the harddisk and save it on the other harddisk in the system. Then repartition your harddisk using the tools built into Windows (right click on My Computer -> manage -> disk management, I assume that pc runs on Windows XP) and then place the harddisk back into your computer and reinstall.

When reinstallation is done you can move all the data back to your own computer and never use Partition Magic again or create a full harddisk backup before doing so. It doesn't mess up your system very often, but when it does it does, you can see what happens.

The thing is, he said he doesn't have a copy of Win 2000 so I'm guessing it's an OEM version or he got the computer with it already installed but the recovery CD was missing.

I've used Partition Magic and so far haven't had a problem but Platypus was right about one thing, you'll have to try and recover the data with your hard drive in another machine.

I downloaded Partition Magic, but I haven't installed it yet.  Isn't there some kind of boot recovery program that you could use?  Usually a partition program makes some kind of backup for the partition information and has a seperate program to restore it.  Perhaps PM has some command-line program or a program that you can run from safe mode which would restore the old partition information. (You'll need a boot disk though.)

It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a program like MSDOS' SYS program for NTFS, where you can transfer the boot information from a floppy disk onto a partition.  That might solve your boot problem right there.

I just lost Windows XP myself and had to re-install it.  I was able to copy all data to another hard drive, but man, what a pain in the butt just to install and configure all my programs again.  disgusted
