I've had this game since about 1998 I think. I never did solve it. Recently I decided to reinstall it and solve it. I got to a place where I found a hat pin. I found that when I use it at two different locations, the game crashes. The locations and actions leading to the crash are when I use it to try to obtain the key on a string in the mail slot at the kidnappers' home/flat with the hat pin, and at Thomas Pratt's flat when I pick up the pillow and probe it with the hat pin. Has anyone a game fix or patch for this? Basically the game collapses to the desktop when I try either action. Help?

P.S. My copy is an original but I found that home of the underdogs lists it as abandonware including a download of it.

Do you run it through dosbox?
Runs perfect in dosbox 0.70 , IF your PC is powerfull enough.
Don't mount your game(Holmes2) folder as C:.
Create a c:\games folder in windows and mount that as c: in dosbox, let the game install in c:\holmes2 (dosbox).
Mount your CDDrive as D: in dosbox with '-t cdrom -ioctl' params.

That's 'bout it.
Works flawless.
