The Suffering

The Suffering game has been released as freeware or abandonware.
It was released in 2004 but made free in September 2008.

The game is about a man name Torque who was sent to prison for murdering his family. He claims he blacked out when the murders occurred. He was sent to a maximum security prison. After first arriving, there was an earthquake and twisted creatures were released. The prison is basically haunted but the spirits are killing both prisoner and guard alike. One of the spirits is a doctor who had done several experiments on prisoners during World War 2. This same doctor seems obsessed with influencing Torque. Throughout the game, Torque's deceased wife speaks to him and tries to influence him to do good deeds. Your mission is to try to escape with your life and figure out what happened the night of your family's deaths.

In gamer/comic book speak, this game is a cross between 90s shooters, The Hulk, F.E.A.R. and Nightmare Creatures.

Oh. The game majorly over-uses the f-word constantly. Then again, you are in a prison...

I've heard about this, but I've already beat the game at a friend's house. Very scary game...
