SystemShock2 on XP

Post SystemShock2 on XP
Just wondering if anyone else has problems running SS2 on WinDoze XP.

I have installed the game and unpacked the movie/sound files.

The menu loads perfectly and allows me to change the options etc...

As soon as I click on "new game" the screen flashes black for a second and then goes back to Windoze.

It does the same thing if I press "Intro".

I have tried the compatability settings for '95 '98/ME etc etc etc with no luck.

Damn shame - the reviews sound promising,  as does the "hi-res" update.

*EDIT:
I suppose some system specs would help ;)
XP Pro SP2
996mhz AMD
384Meg ram
nVidea GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE

Have you installed DivX 5.01 ? If I remember well the game won't run without it.

You can get it there:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=divx

Also: you can download SS2 (ripped one) @HotUs.
Works on XP with that DivX 5.01.
Also: the HotU rip works with the Rebirth high res mod.

If you like to read:

Something as a 47 pages howto for SS2 .  stick out tongue

[edit]
Next time you call Windows Windoze you're on your own, if you don't like it run Linux. No need to spit on it.

Thanks for the link,  will try 5.0.1.  big grin

BTW I downloaded the HOtU version onto my Acer laptop (running WINDOWS MILLENIUM EDITION)
and it worked straight away! (Pity it has 8meg video ram - sound acceleration is better off)  cool

Now all I have to do is get it running on my (hand-me-down,  free-from-a-mate) MICROSOFT WINDOWS
XP PROFESSIONAL VERSION 2002 SERVICE PACK 2 machine with this new/old DivX file,  fingers crossed.

I was up to page 12 of the "ttlq"post already - long thread!  wink

Geez sorry to offend you but I will only learn and use that particular O/S when I decide to get around to
wardriving tyvm.  Just don't like trusting my whole system to open source when I run a business from home.  paranoid

And just for the record,  I wouldn't spit on XP if it was ON FIRE!   finger
