Best old LAN games, specifically racing

Postby madagascaradam » Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:49 am

Can anyone recommend any good old LAN games? I'm specifically interested in racing, but any suggestions would be nice.

The computers I want them for are 233 MHz, about 128-192MB RAM, no graphics card acceleration, but running Win XP. Also, I'll be hooking them up with a crossover cable - so not a real LAN, but I suppose it's real enough.

So, I'd like to find some decent games whose graphics are software accelerated but support multiplayer LAN. Please let me know, especially if you guys know of any good racing games that'll work on a system like this.

I've actually got Quake, Doom II, Descent, and Duke Nukem 3D on them already. I remember them from when I was younger, so I knew they'd work. But I don't know what racing games were good from the time, or any other suggestions for good LAN games would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a lot!

whacky wheels - and you don't have to think too much about hardware specs with this one, yet is the mario kart the pc deserved for years...

I had fun years ago with speed racer, in 2 hot seat mode, but I don't remember if that one had LAN mode...

... for that hardware, I guess you can run NFS2ED or even NFS3HP, runs in software mode, LAN mode, 2 good racing games...

Death rally is pretty good as well. I can't remember if it's LAN or split screen but it should defiantly work with those specs but may possibly need Dosbox
